Cat 7 Wire Installation

An Ethernet Cable or network cable is a copper wire or cord that connects a router, modem, or network switch to your computer to a network. It comes in many standardized varieties.

Category 7 cable (Cat 7 or Class F) is a standard cable that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to distances of 100 meters. Cat 7 cables are backward compatible with Class D/Category 5e and Class E/Category 6. Although, backward compatibility will reduce the data transfer speed.

Class F standard has even stricter specifications for crosstalk and system noise than the Class E standard. To achieve this, shielding was added for individual wire pairs and around the entire cable.

Unshielded cables rely on the quality of the twists to protect from EMI. This involves a tight twist and carefully controlled design. Cables with individual shielding per pair, such as Cat 7, rely mostly on the shield and therefore have pairs with longer twists. This means they are engineered as an improvement on previous categories giving them a max speed of 10 GB and expanded frequencies up to 600 mhz.
